JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A Florida college student said she was shocked to climb into her rental car outside of her apartment to find a 3 1/2-foot snake on the dashboard.
Brianna Young of Jacksonville said she got into the car Sept. 8, shortly after it was dropped off at her apartment by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and immediately exited the vehicle upon spotting the reptile stretched out along the dashboard, WJXT-TV, Jacksonville, reported Tuesday.
"I was scared," she said. "I just hopped out and was like, 'Oh my God,' and just stood behind the car."
Young called Enterprise, which sent Jeff Altman of American Trappers to catch the snake. Altman identified the reptile as a non-venomous red rat snake and said he plans to release the animal into the wild, the report said.
"It's a native snake to Florida," Altman said. "They're all around. If people see these in their yards, don't kill 'em. They are very beneficial snakes. They eat rodents and insects."
