Pasir Ris MRT Stop

The Pasir Ris MRT stop is located in the central part of Pasir Ris New Town, one of the many residential areas in Singapore which comprises of many high-rise residential dwelling blocks. This stop can be considered a relatively quiet stop, but it does have a shopping mall called White Sands Shopping Centre, where you can do a bit of shopping and grab a bite.

If you want a little more ‘excitement’ at this stop, you could head down to NTUC Downtown East, an entertainment hub in its own right, albeit one of the not so exciting ones (if compared to Orchard Road or Resorts World Sentosa). It does, however, provide entertainment for families with young children and youths at a much affordable price.

NTUC Downtown East
At NTUC Downtown East, you would be able to find E!Hub, a 5 storey leisure/entertainment hub where you can do things like eat, bowl and catch a movie, and even do some (more) shopping. There is also a 25-metre Ferris Wheel indoors, which is more for children and those children at heart I suppose.

La Mian (Noodles)

La Mian is a type of Chinese noodles that is usually hand-made by stretching and folding the dough into long strands. There are various types of la main (ramen) and the thickness all varies. La mian stalls are plenty in Singapore, and almost every food court has a stall selling this noodles in various soups (tom yum, pork/ikan bilis broth etc…) or dry. But this is my first time eating la mian noodles that are not only hand made, but of different thickness.

I had to opportunity to try the la mian at 洪鹏杠拉面 located at Food Park (a food court) located at Tampines St 81 Blk 823A. Located in the suburbs, this food court is not equipped with any air-conditioning, but the food is worth sitting through the heat (if it unfortunately happens to be a hot day). You might think that it is not that popular a store as there is no queue, but it turns out that they have a unique ordering system of getting the customers to come back later to collect their noodles instead of standing in queue and just waiting till the food is done. Usually in Singapore, if you see a long queue, especially when it comes to food, there can only mean two things: either the food... Read more>>

B.o.B in Singapore 2011

Last summer August 2011, an important personality came to Singapore: the artist B.o.B. Organized by the famous sports chain Adidas for which he is a spokesperson, an autograph session was arranged in one of its shops. I had the privilege to attend this event, and found that the event was very secure, perhaps a little too secured.

SENTOSA
So together with the fans, I was waiting outside the Adidas shop and caught of a glimpse of B.o.B through the window trying on clothes and doing his shopping! After he was done, he sat down at the table, preparing for the autograph session. Everyone outside the shop was impatiently waiting for this moment, books, CD and camera all ready in hand to capture the precious moment.

The door finally opened and everybody entered in an orderly fashion, under the scrutiny of the security guards of course. When it was our turn (my brother and I), we were very disappointed by the event and the organization: B.o.B was not allowed to sign on any of our belongings, and handed out an already pre-signed piece of paper. As for photographs with B.o.B, they were taken by the Adidas shop cameras and we could not use our own.

My brother was about to hand his handphones to B.o.B to sign and even the man himself was willing to take it and sign it for it him, but the security guards stood between them and forbid B.o.B to...Read more>>

The Actresses

The Actresses is a South Korean film produced in 2009 by director E J-yong. According to Wikipedia, director E J-yong was inspired by two of his close actress friends, Yoon Yeo-jeong and Ko Hyeon-jeong and wanted to show the public how charming actresses are in real life. So Yoon Yeo-jeong, Lee Mi-sook, Ko Hyeon-jeong, Choi Ji-woo, Kim Min-hee and Kim Ok-bin, together with director E J-yong wrote the script (which was improvised). E J-yong would provide the conflict and the actresses improvised, which included a real-life confrontation between Ko Hyeon-jeong and Choi Ji-woo, each admitting that their on-set relationship was strained, with Ko Hyeon-jeong admitting that she felt envious of Choi Ji-woo's looks.

So together, the 6 actresses, portraying themselves in the film, come together for a Vogue magazine photo shoot on Christmas Eve, resulting in a clash of egos between individuals not used to sharing the limelight... Read more>>

IT Show Survival Guide

Image: watcharakun / FreeDigitalPhotos.net
With so many exhibitors and items to look at, it may take you days to go through the halls, not to mention the different levels that the exhibitors are on. To beat the crowd, or save yourself the trouble and energy here are some suggestions (in no particular order) for events like the IT Show:

1. Look out for pricing and any bargains from the newspapers or online.
If you know what you are looking for, getting a good idea of the layout from the floor plans to help you narrow down your search, saving you time. Knowing which area has the better bargain or knowing how to navigate (or map) the places you want. Doing so not only helps you save even more time, and spares you the suffering of prolonged... A German Specialty : CurryWurst/CurrySausage

CurryWurst, a German specialty
This is a typical German dish, with sliced sausages topped with a sweet curry sauce (mix of ketchup sauce and curry powder) , accompanied by french fries or small bread rolls (Brötchen). This dish is very appreciated by tourists who come and taste this local dish as well as by the German people. It is tasty and not too spicy.

The invention of CurryWurst is attributed to Herta Heuwer in Berlin in 1949, after obtaining ketchup, sausages and curry powder from British soldiers. She mixed the... Read more>>
