Giant Baby Is Weight Of A Six-Year-Old

When he was born in China's southern Hunan province, Xiao Lei weighed in at around 3.5kg (7.7lbs), only just above the average weight of a newborn baby, according to Hunan television.

But a fierce appetite has seen him expand to 20kg (44lbs) - double the size of most babies of his age.

His mother, Cheng Qingyu, has said he is fed only with her breast milk.

"I've never had him take any milk powder or anything that contains hormones. Why would I need to worry?"

However, doctors at Hunan Children's Hospital have said unless Xiao Lei loses weight, it will cause future problems for his heart and blood pressure.

Sausages used in suicide bomb plot gone wrong

Chinese police were held in a hour-long stand-off with a suspected suicide bomber only to find the man was armed with sausages.

Police believed that the straps and bulky items around Sing He's waist were dynamite and detonators.

Mr He, 23, threatened to blow up a restaurant and its customers in Benxi, northern China, unless the staff handed over the contents of the till.

But a specialist bomb unit called to the scene quickly determined that the device was assembled with pork products.

"When we saw what he had round his waist we couldn't help laughing. Some of the sausages still had the wrappers on them," said one bomb squad officer. "It must have been terrifying for the customers but those things would only have gone off if you'd kept them past their sell by date."

Mr He told police he had planned the raid because he was depressed after breaking up with his girlfriend.

He said: "I needed some excitement in my life and to that extent it was a success."

World's longest fuel queue

Taxi drivers in a Chinese city are complaining that they are having to queue for miles to refuel their cars.

Cabbies in Chongqing can use either petrol or natural gas but they prefer to use natural gas as it is much cheaper.

But a cold weather snap has led to shortages with production falling and more people using gas to heat their homes.

Queues at the local natural gas station at Rongqiao are going back miles - with yellow cabs snaking all of the way around the double loop of a flyover and beyond.

A spokesman for the Chongqing Natural Gas Group told Xinhua Net: "We are doing what we can to solve the problem by increasing production.

"In the meantime, I'm afraid the taxi drivers will just have to wait patiently if they want natural gas."
